The Baha'is of Egypt have been subjected to persecution and systematic oppression. While their quest for equality has been finally heard by many of their fellow citizens, there remain challenges and obstacles to the implementation of laws intended to grant them their full civil rights and equal opportunity in their society. With the emergence of the new Egypt, they seek to be given the opportunity to actively engage in rebuilding their nation.

In Egypt, as of now, no internet & no mobile telephone service. Landlines are still up. Al-Jazeera was shut down today.
ReplyDeleteAl Jazeera online has been keeping us upto date and my hubby has been able to contact his family by land line each day. They are fine and comforted by our prayers and the militaries pledge to do no harm to civilians.
ReplyDelete"Every age hath its own problem, and every soul its particular aspiration. The remedy the world needeth in its present-day afflictions can never be the same as that which a subsequent age may require. Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and center your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements." Bahá'u'lláh
Thank you for this very timely quote.

Still no protection in neighborhoods. Communities continue to organize their own shifts to guard and protect their properties and families.
ReplyDeleteStill praying, watching and waiting. Calling on family now in Egypt. May be to early we are not getting an answer. Our family has been staying locked in their homes ocassionally watching state sponsered news very much aware that they are not getting the whole story.
ReplyDeleteThey are reporting that things are calm in the areas outside of Cairo.

Very sad to see the destruction, violence and mayhem. This is not the Egypt I know...very sad...very sad.... Egypt must find a way out of this disaster....
ReplyDeleteToday, Egypt's new Prime-Minister apologized for yesterday's violent events and promised to investigate it fully. He then spoke very eloquently about the principle of consultation, showing a thorough understanding of how it should be conducted.
ReplyDeleteI am grateful that the army did not harm the protesters.
ReplyDeleteMany of these protesters are the same people who raised their voices defending the rights of minorities in Egypt, when the minorities did not have a voice yet, while other have a more defined view on who should Egypt be for! I hope that this experience made groups like Al- Akhawan Al-Muslimeen realize that the need for justice is universal! It is critical to have a peaceful solution that guarantees a safe life and basic human rights to all Egyptians including the protesters. How the government reacts and where Egypt goes after this movement is critical for not only Egypt and the region, but also the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with all Egyptians.
Would Iran be NEXT!
