You are correct, the article would be easier to amend than to eliminate...we shall see….

Ironically, Article-2 was added by President Sadat in order to appease the fundamentalists who in turn ended up killing him!Bilohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08060802520953738221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29145551.post-352680228292278382006-12-23T15:05:00.000-05:002006-12-23T15:05:00.000-05:00That would be an enormous change in Egypt, wouldn'...That would be an enormous change in Egypt, wouldn't it? I can anticipate the strong resistance to such a change. Some might consider it somehow to be a failure of Islamic government. If that's so, countries like Iran and Egypt will find it very difficult to break shariah law away from their government. There should be some logical way of guaranteeing human rights for everyone while allowing these governments to maintain their basis on sharia law. That should appeal to a wider audience. Otherwise, I'm afraid an amendment like the one you mention will be hard-pressed to succeed.Kianooshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05446826126730554432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29145551.post-27400491072568986742006-12-23T13:27:00.000-05:002006-12-23T13:27:00.000-05:00Kianoosh,

It is so clear that a separation of state and religion would really help here. Egypt's constitution is based in part on Sharia law, but this issue asks some serious questions about that foundation.Kianooshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05446826126730554432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29145551.post-45479603832851630512006-12-23T00:42:00.000-05:002006-12-23T00:42:00.000-05:00For early history of enlightenment in al-Azhar, pl...For early history of enlightenment in al-Azhar, please refer to this post....Bilohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08060802520953738221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29145551.post-75200624292188438812006-12-22T17:31:00.000-05:002006-12-22T17:31:00.000-05:00In Egypt...the Azhar University...the promised day...In Egypt...the Azhar University...the promised day on which, according to 'Abdu'l-Bahá, the standard and emblem of the Faith would be implanted in the heart of that time-honored Islamic seat of learning;

(Shoghi Effendi, God Passes By, p. 302)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
